About the Class (Instructor Lynne Jordan)
Welcome! Thank you for your interest in Thai Massage. I am proud to introduce you to this healing technique that is ancient and profound. There are so many reasons to be excited about this particular style that you have chosen to learn. One of the many facets that Thai Massage embraces is that it is as rewarding and beneficial to the therapist practicing this form as it is for the client receiving the work. The format that this particular class teaches is a framework of movements that give the receiver a complete body overhaul from feet to head and from skeletal structure to energy lines. In the meantime you are getting a great deal of benefit from the stretching during the body positions to centering of the mind body and spirit. I enjoy each and every person getting the most from this education. Here are some things to keep in mind for the class.
Attendance: It is required that you participate in 100% of the designated class time due to the nature of the session. This particular format builds upon the previous movements learned. It is a flow and sequence that balances the body systems. If a segment is missed in class a integral part of the session is also missed. After the entire session is learned changes can be made to modify the massage due to time factors or client requests. My observations lead me to conclude that the optimum time to perform this massage is the full 2 hour session. The balanced movements creates a wonderful healing state.
Receiving: It is required that you receive 2 Thai Massage sessions either prior to the class or during the class itself. There is a saying in the Thai Massage community that “ even bad Thai is good Thai.” There are elements to the work that you should experience directly before deciding that this is a technique for you. Thai Massage very much gives back to the practitioner doing the massage. Also, Thai Massage is very physically challenging in nature. You not only will be stretching your clients hamstring limitations but, will also be stretching your own. It is very much something to consider when learning Thai Massage. I can almost safely say that once you learn Thai you will want to do it again and again. Initially the learning curve is not only mental but, a physical one. I ask that you be very patient with yourself during this process and practice does improve the skill tremendously. Before you know it you own nose is able to touch your knees and your hamstrings will be forever grateful.
I sincerely love this work and it is a great honor to share it with you.
I look forward to our class time together and hope you enjoy learning it as much as I enjoy teaching it. See you soon.
Lynne Jordan
